Pipe Lining vs Pipe Bursting
- Sewer Pipe Lining
Pipe lining, or CIPP, is one of the most popular forms of trenchless pipe repairs. This process has three steps. The first, camera inspection, is accomplished by feeding a CCTV (closed circuit television) camera into your pipeline from an existing access point. This advanced camera sends high-definition video of your pipes interior to our techs above ground, allowing them to get an accurate picture of the condition of your pipes.
Next, if the pipes are good candidates for lining, we insert a hose fitted with a multi-directional nozzle into the line and blast fresh water through the line at up to 4,000 PSI. This takes care of any blockages, debris, or build-up in the pipe and readies it for relining. When we finish the cleaning, it’s time to move on to the lining process.
The lining process begins by coating a felt tube with a specialized epoxy resin. The tube is then fed into your existing pipes, distributing the resin onto their interior and creating a new pipe within your line. Once the epoxy resin cures, the felt tube is removed and your new pipes are ready for use. Pipes repaired using this method - known as CIPP or cure-in-place-pipelining - can be expected to last at least 50 years, meaning you won’t have to worry about your pipeline system for decades to come.
- Sewer Pipe Bursting
Sometimes, pipes are too damaged to take a liner effectively. Pipes that are crumbling, collapsed, or have otherwise sustained significant damage will likely not be viable even with a relining. If a portion of your system needs replaced and there are partially collapsed water and drain lines, Freedom Plumbers will use pipe bursting to replace the line entirely. Pipe bursting methods begin with just that - bursting the pipes! A specialized head is run through the pipe, bursting it and distributing its debris into the surrounding earth along the way. This head also creates a perfect place for your new, undamaged pipe which is fed in right behind the bursting head.
Trenchless sewer options can handle almost any pipeline problem from start to finish. From the initial camera inspection to the internal cleaning process and relining or replacing your existing pipes, this technology is revolutionizing the way plumbing issues are addressed. More than that, trenchless repairs are saving customers time, money, and the worries of the traditional excavation processes.
