Septic Systems Service & Repair
In Virginia, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has recommendations for property owners with Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems or Septic Systems, to maintain and inspect their pre-treatment tanks or Septic Tanks regularly. That said, not everyone can call themselves an inspector and charge you. Only licensed Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage Systems Professionals (WWWOOSSP) are allowed to inspect, service, maintain, repair or replace any components of your Septic Systems.
What gets Inspected?
• Pre-Treatment or Septic Tank
The Septic Tank will require both lids be excavated and exposed before starting the Inspection. Once liquid, crust and sludge levels are observed, the tank is hydraulically tested for flow and drainage. The tank is then pumped and inspected. The tank is inspected for physical damage and deterioration that will compromise its functionality, structural stability, and safety. The sewer coming from the structure and the conveyance line that moves the E-Fluent to the Absorption field will be inspected by sewer camera for grade, physical damage, and deterioration that will compromise its functionality, structural stability, and safety.
• Distribution Systems or Distribution Box
The Distribution Box will require excavation and expose the lid before starting the inspection. Like the Septic tank, the Distribution Box liquid levels will be observed and a hydraulic flow test will take place for wake turbulence, even distribution, flow and drainage. The distribution box is inspected for physical damage and deterioration that will compromise its functionality, structural stability, and safety.
• Absorption Field
The absorption area is probed using a metal probe rod to determine ground water saturation. The header lines and absorption lines are inspected by sewer camera for grade, physical damage and deterioration that will compromise its functionality, structural stability, and safety.
